How files are handled

Last updated: October 23, 2026

This page describes only what is actually implemented today. We update it whenever that changes.

In-browser tools

Tools labeled “Runs in your browser” process files only inside your browser. This covers most tools — organizing, editing, signing, forms, compression, passwords, OCR and more — and file contents are never uploaded. Tools that need a font, the compression/encryption engine (qpdf), or the OCR engine and language data (tesseract) download them only from this site.

Results

Results exist only in your browser tab's memory. They're gone when you click “Clear” or close the tab. Downloaded files are saved to your device.

What we don't collect

For in-browser tools, we don't collect file names, contents, page counts, signature images, passwords or similar details for analytics or logs.

Server tools

Tools labeled “Processed on our server”, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint to and from PDF, send your file to our conversion server. Transfers are encrypted with HTTPS, and the server deletes your file as soon as it returns the result. Any temporary file left behind by an error is deleted automatically within 10 minutes. We never log file names or contents or use them for anything else.

Shared PDF files

Files uploaded with Share PDF are kept in private storage only for the period you choose (1, 7 or 30 days) and are deleted automatically every day after they expire. Only people with the link can download them, and you can delete them anytime from your account page.

Account information

We store only the email address needed to sign in and, for Google sign-in, your name. Deleting your account deletes your shared files too. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Limitations

In-browser processing depends on your device's speed and memory. Very large files may be slow or fail, and you'll see an error message if they do.
